Nurses Shield Infants In China As Myanmar Earthquake Kills Over 1,000 (Video)

RUILI, CHINA (Worthy News) – Footage obtained by Worthy News on Saturday purportedly shows two nurses shielding two infants in China’s Yunnan province from the impacts of a massive earthquake that killed more than 1,000 people in neighboring Myanmar and Thailand. “A touching moment during the tragedy,” said Tong Bingxue, an author and historian providing visual content about Greater China.

The 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar “was felt in [in the city of] Ruili [in the west of] Yunnan, China, where two nurses at Jingcheng Hospital’s maternity center were seen shielding infants,” he added.

While most damage was done in Myanmar, tremors were also noticed in China, Laos, and Thailand, where several people were killed, including beneath a collapsed skyscraper in Bangkok.

The dramatic footage emerged as international rescue teams rushed into Myanmar, also known as Burma, on Saturday to help search for survivors from the devastating earthquake.

The death toll in Myanmar was 1,002, the military government said on Saturday, up sharply from initial state media reports of 144 dead on Friday.

The quake in the impoverished Southeast Asian nation further crippled critical infrastructure amid an ongoing civil war that has also impacted minority Christians.

At least nine people were killed in neighboring Thailand, as the quake rattled buildings and brought down a skyscraper under construction in the capital, Bangkok, trapping 30 people under debris, with 49 missing, officials said.

Rescue workers were still searching for the dead and injured beneath the rubble, according to footage seen by Worthy News.

The United Nations children’s agency UNICEF said it was “deeply concerned about the devastating impact of [Friday’s] earthquake in Myanmar on children and families,” adding that damage “has also been reported in parts of Thailand. Our teams are in affected areas to assess impact and prepare humanitarian support.”
