(Worthy News) – Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to present a sweeping new military and governance plan for the Gaza Strip to Israel’s security cabinet on Thursday, according to government sources who spoke with The Jerusalem Post. The proposal is expected to greenlight a large-scale IDF operation to occupy additional portions of the coastal enclave over a five-month period.

The plan, reportedly involving five Israel Defense Forces (IDF) divisions, includes the relocation of approximately one million residents of Gaza City. Sources indicated that the plan will likely win cabinet approval, though internal debate remains over the scope and final version of the operation.

“The real question is what version of the plan will ultimately be approved,” one cabinet minister said.

IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir, while expected to remain in his post, has openly criticized the proposed operation, warning it could jeopardize the lives of Israeli hostages still held by Hamas. “The operation is a mistake and will endanger the hostages,” Zamir reportedly said during a high-level security meeting on Tuesday.

The decision-making process in Jerusalem is being closely watched in Washington, where the Trump administration is engaged in internal deliberations over Gaza’s humanitarian crisis and potential reconstruction efforts. According to senior officials, any formal plan presented by the U.S. could directly influence Israel’s final military approach.

A source familiar with the discussions told The Jerusalem Post that the administration “intends to significantly ramp up the amount of humanitarian aid being distributed” in Gaza. President Donald Trump echoed that sentiment on Wednesday.

“We’re working to try to feed the people in Gaza,” Trump said. “Israel is supposed to help us with the distribution, both financially and logistically, as are Arab states.”

Pressed on whether Israel should fully take control of the Gaza Strip, Trump responded, “That’s Israel’s decision.”

The anticipated military expansion and civilian displacement come amid mounting international scrutiny over Gaza’s humanitarian conditions and the fate of remaining hostages. Thursday’s security cabinet meeting is expected to be one of the most consequential since the beginning of the war.
