Trump Claims ‘Real Progress’ On Ending War In Ukraine; Russia Makes ‘Concessions’
by Stefan J. Bos, Worthy News Europe Bureau Chief
AIR FORCE ONE/BUDAPEST (Worthy News) – U.S. President Donald J. Trump claims Russia is “making concessions” in talks to end the Ukraine war and says Kyiv is “happy” about progress toward a possible peace agreement after nearly four years of fighting.
Speaking to reporters on Air Force One as he flew to his Florida estate for Thanksgiving, Trump said, “We’re making progress” on a deal and added that he would be willing to meet with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy once negotiations are “close to an agreement.”
No date has been set yet for a potential meeting among Trump, Putin, and Zelenskyy.
The Worthy News Europe Bureau learned that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán — a close ally of Trump — is likely to meet Putin in Moscow this week, ahead of a possible meeting between the three presidents, according to sources briefed on the matter.
However, Orbán’s meeting with Putin, reportedly scheduled for November 28, has not been officially confirmed. Hungarian investigative journalist Szabolcs Pányi noted that Orbán and Putin “have met three times since 2022 and 14 times in total.”
BUDAPEST A VENUE?
Budapest, Hungary’s capital, had been named as a possible venue for a Trump-Putin summit. Still, it was unclear whether Zelenskyy would attend there, given his tense relationship with Hungary’s government.
Trump said the U.S. draft peace plan, which was circulated to both sides — widely reported as a 28-point outline — is being adjusted. He described it as “just a map,” indicating it remains flexible and is not a final proposal.
The president also claimed Moscow had shown willingness to “stop fighting and not take more land,” framing this as evidence that Russia is “making concessions.” These claims have not been independently verified.
Kyiv reportedly considers parts of the U.S. proposal “acceptable in principle,” while stressing that several points “require further clarification.”
However, senior Ukrainian officials told reporters that Kyiv recently submitted “significant changes” to the U.S. plan.
UKRAINE SOVEREIGNTY MENTIONED
The revisions emphasize Ukraine’s sovereignty and internationally recognized borders, long-term security guarantees, and coordination with European allies, the officials explained.
Trump said any future meeting with Putin and Zelenskyy would only take place after negotiators are close to a final agreement.
He added that there is no longer a fixed deadline for the peace plan — reversing earlier suggestions that movement could come by Thanksgiving.
“We’ll meet when it’s ready,” Trump said.
