Vance: “Some Progress” in Geneva Talks, But Iran Yet to Acknowledge U.S. Red Lines

GENEVA (Worthy News) – U.S. Vice President JD Vance said Tuesday that the second round of nuclear negotiations with Tehran yielded “some progress,” but cautioned that Iran has yet to acknowledge or work through key American red lines set by President Donald Trump.

“In some ways it went well. They agreed to meet afterward,” Vance said in an interview following the Geneva session. “But in other ways, it was very clear that the president has set some red lines that the Iranians are not yet willing to actually acknowledge and work through.”

At the center of those red lines is Washington’s insistence that Iran must not obtain a nuclear weapon. Vance emphasized that a nuclear-armed Islamic Republic would destabilize the region and likely spark a broader global arms race. While Tehran continues to claim its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, U.S. officials remain unconvinced.

“The president of the United States is very much trying to find a solution here,” Vance said, adding that Trump remains committed to diplomacy but retains the authority to determine when negotiations have “reached their natural end.”

A senior U.S. official confirmed that Iran agreed to return within two weeks with detailed written proposals aimed at narrowing gaps between the two sides. “Progress was made, but there are still a lot of details to discuss,” the official said.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described the talks as “constructive” and said both delegations had agreed on “guiding principles” to frame further negotiations. However, Israeli officials quoted by Hebrew-language media cast doubt on Tehran’s optimism, suggesting that Iran may be attempting to buy time without addressing core U.S. demands.

As diplomacy continues, the United States has reinforced its military posture in the region. Officials confirmed that dozens of fighter jets — including advanced F-22s and F-35s — have been repositioned to the Middle East in recent days. The buildup underscores Washington’s dual-track approach: pursuing negotiations while maintaining credible military deterrence.

President Trump has signaled that he wants clarity within weeks, not months. While both sides agreed to continue talks, the central issue remains unchanged — until Iran directly addresses U.S. red lines, particularly on uranium enrichment and weaponization capacity, any broader agreement remains uncertain.
