(Worthy News) – The Israel Defense Forces struck Hezbollah command centers in Beirut’s Dahiyeh district on Sunday, escalating Israel’s campaign against the Iran-backed terrorist group after renewed fire from Lebanon toward Israeli territory.

The Prime Minister’s Office said the strikes targeted terrorist command centers in Dahiyeh, Hezbollah’s longtime stronghold in the Lebanese capital. Israeli officials said the operation came in response to Hezbollah attacks on Israeli communities, despite a U.S.-brokered ceasefire announced earlier this month.

Lebanese officials reported that at least one person was killed in the strike, while Arab media outlets said a residential apartment used as a Hezbollah command center was hit. Reports said three missiles were fired at the site. Saudi outlet Al-Hadath reported that Israel notified the U.S. administration ahead of the Beirut operation, though senior U.S. officials later said Washington did not participate in the strike or give Israel a formal “green light.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel would continue acting against Hezbollah until the threat to northern Israel is removed.

“We will not allow Hezbollah fire at our territory or our communities, and we will act accordingly,” Netanyahu said at the start of a government meeting. “In Lebanon, our forces eliminated 350 terrorists in the past week alone. They seized the Beaufort ridge, where they found a vast underground infrastructure. We are completing the elimination of the terrorist villages adjacent to our border. We are striking them very hard, and we know that Hezbollah is on the run.”

The strike came as Israel has expanded operations in southern Lebanon, including areas near Beaufort Ridge, Wadi al-Saluki, and Nabatieh. Israeli forces have pushed beyond previous lines of engagement after weeks of Hezbollah rocket and drone attacks, which have continued to threaten Israeli civilians and wound IDF soldiers.

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir said he had approved plans to deepen Israel’s campaign against Hezbollah while the military remains active on multiple fronts.

“I approved plans to further deepen the blow to Hezbollah,” Zamir said. “We will continue to eliminate every terrorist organization in Judea and Samaria, and from here I am continuing to hold a situation assessment on Iran. IDF troops are operating simultaneously and with force on all fronts until every threat is removed.”

Israeli military sources said the Air Force dropped multiple heavy bombs on a Hezbollah command complex in Dahiyeh. Some Israeli assessments suggested mid-level Hezbollah operatives may have been inside the compound, though other statements indicated the site may have been largely evacuated before impact.

Iran Issues Warning After Beirut Strike

Iran responded with sharp threats after the attack, warning that strikes on Beirut could reignite a broader regional war. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had warned days earlier that any Israeli attack on Beirut would have “dangerous consequences,” while Iranian lawmaker Ebrahim Rezaei, a senior figure tied to Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei’s office, said Tehran would deliver a “painful” response and warned Israelis to “look at the sky” later that night.

The Beirut strike highlights the fragile and increasingly strained nature of the Lebanon ceasefire. Israel has argued that Hezbollah’s continued attacks void any expectation of restraint, while Hezbollah and Iran continue to test the limits of Israeli and U.S. tolerance.

For Israel, the message was unmistakable: Hezbollah will not be permitted to use Beirut, southern Lebanon, or civilian cover as a shield for continued attacks on Israeli towns.

For Lebanon, the strike underscores the heavy cost of Hezbollah’s decision to operate as an Iranian proxy from within civilian neighborhoods, drawing the country deeper into a confrontation many Lebanese citizens never chose.
