Trump Administration Credits Law-and-Order Agenda as Major Cities Report Historic Homicide Lows

(Worthy News) – The Trump administration is crediting its aggressive law-and-order agenda for a historic decline in homicides across major U.S. cities, as early crime data points to some of the lowest murder rates recorded in more than a century.
White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said President Donald Trump’s focus on restoring public safety, backing law enforcement, removing violent offenders from the streets, and deporting criminal illegal aliens has helped reverse years of soft-on-crime policies that left American families vulnerable.
“Thanks to President Trump’s law-and-order agenda, crime across the country has plummeted to the lowest level in more than 100 years,” Jackson told The Washington Times.
The Council on Criminal Justice previously projected that the national homicide rate for 2025 could fall to roughly 4 per 100,000 residents, which would mark the lowest documented level in U.S. law enforcement or public health data going back to 1900. The final numbers are expected when the FBI releases its annual crime report this fall.
Major cities are already reporting dramatic progress.
In New York City, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the city recorded 122 homicides during the first six months of the year, below the previous midyear record low of 136 in 2017. The NYPD also reported historic lows in shooting victims and shooting incidents, including sharp declines in the Bronx and in public housing developments.
“New York City’s public safety progress is the result of precision policing and the extraordinary work of the men and women of the NYPD,” Tisch said.
Baltimore, long known as one of America’s most violent cities, also reported a stunning drop. Mayor Brandon Scott said the city recorded 50 homicides through July 1, the fewest ever at the midway point of the year. Police data showed a 23% decline compared with the first half of 2025, continuing a downward trend that began after years of pandemic-era violence.
“We are making progress on public safety that many thought was impossible,” Scott said, while acknowledging that “one life lost to violence in our city is one too many.”
New Orleans has also seen a sharp decline. Officials said the city recorded 38 homicides through June 25, down 24% from the same period last year. If the pace continues, New Orleans could end the year near homicide levels not seen since the late 1960s. The Louisiana National Guard has been stationed in the city since the beginning of the year to support local law enforcement.
The improvements follow years of rising violence in many cities after the 2020 unrest and anti-police movement that swept the nation. New Orleans, for example, was named the nation’s murder capital in 2022 after recording 266 killings.
For the Trump administration, the message is clear: public safety improves when police are supported, criminals are prosecuted, and government treats law and order as a duty rather than an afterthought.
