Blood Moon Eclipse to Mark Elul Season After Eclipse, Rare Sky Alignment and Meteor Shower
Celestial Events Draw Attention to Genesis 1 and the Biblical Appointed Times

(Worthy News) – A rare “Blood Moon” lunar eclipse will darken the skies over much of the world this week, closing out a striking season of celestial events that began near the opening of Elul, the Hebrew month of repentance and preparation before the Biblical fall feasts.
The deep partial lunar eclipse will unfold during the night of August 27 into the early morning hours of August 28. TIME reported that roughly 3.6 billion people — about 44.4% of the world’s population — will be in position to see at least part of the event, as 96% of the full moon passes into Earth’s shadow and takes on a deep orange-red glow.
NASA’s Scientific Visualization Studio says the eclipse will reach its greatest point at 4:13 a.m. Universal Time on August 28, when 96.3% of the Moon’s disk will be inside Earth’s umbra, the darkest portion of Earth’s shadow. For viewers in the eastern United States, the peak will occur shortly after midnight, around 12:13 a.m. EDT.
Though it is not technically a total lunar eclipse, the event will be close enough to totality to give observers the familiar “Blood Moon” appearance. NASA explains that the reddish color occurs because sunlight passing through Earth’s atmosphere is filtered, with red and orange wavelengths bending toward the Moon while blue light is scattered away,
According to NASA’s eclipse tables, the eclipse will be visible across the East Pacific, the Americas, Europe, and Africa.
A Month That Began With Signs in the Heavens
The Blood Moon comes after a remarkable opening to the month of Elul.
As Worthy News previously reported, the opening of Elul came amid unusual skywatching interest, with a planetary alignment, an eclipse, and the Perseid meteor shower all drawing attention to the heavens. NASA’s August skywatching guide also noted that the Perseids peaked in mid-August, while multiple planets remained visible before dawn during the month.
For believers who study the Biblical calendar, the timing naturally draws attention to Genesis 1, where God said the lights in the firmament were given “for signs and seasons, and for days and years.” The Hebrew word often connected with “seasons” is moedim — appointed times — the same word used for the Lord’s appointed feasts.
That does not mean every eclipse or meteor shower should be forced into speculation. The heavens move according to the order God established. Yet that order itself is part of the testimony. The sun, moon, and stars mark time, govern days and years, and quietly remind the world that history is not drifting without direction.
Elul has long been understood as a season of return, repentance, and preparation. It leads into the fall appointed times — Yom Teruah, Yom Kippur, and Sukkot — when the themes of awakening, judgment, atonement, and the dwelling presence of God come into sharp focus.
In that setting, the convergence is difficult to ignore: a month opening with a eclipse, meteor shower and planetary alignment, with a Blood Moon eclipse in the midst of the month seen across large portions of the earth.
The proper response is not fear, date-setting, or sensationalism. It is watchfulness.
The heavens still declare the glory of God. The appointed times still call men to return to the Lord. And as the Moon passes through Earth’s shadow during Elul, it stands as another reminder that the God who set the lights in the heavens also appointed the times and seasons of redemption.
