Dozens Killed As Russian Drone Strike Triggers Massive Blast Near Kyiv

KYIV/BUDAPEST (Worthy News) – Scores of people have been killed after a Russian drone strike on a warehouse near the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, triggered a massive detonation, authorities say. The tragedy comes as Moscow’s aerial attacks on Kyiv and the surrounding region continued for a third consecutive day.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has vowed to punish those responsible for the circumstances surrounding the deadly warehouse explosion late Friday, as Ukraine mourns one of its highest death tolls from a single attack in months.

At least 37 people were killed, dozens injured and more than 370 evacuated following the strike in the village of Myla, west of Kyiv.

Explosions could again be heard around the Ukrainian capital as Russian drones targeted Kyiv and the surrounding region.

Zelenskyy said nearby infrastructure suffered significant damage, including residential buildings and a facility caring for elderly people.

However, the president also acknowledged that ammunition appeared to have been stored at or near the warehouse, despite regulations prohibiting such storage close to residential areas.

SECOND DEADLY DETONATION

He said those who allowed this to happen “must be held accountable” for their decisions, adding that criminal proceedings had already been opened over possible official negligence.

The explosion appeared to be the second such disaster in the Kyiv region in two months.

Ten people were killed last month when a Russian strike triggered secondary explosions in the town of Vyshneve.

The latest tragedy came as Russia intensified its aerial campaign against Ukraine, with air raid sirens sounding across Kyiv on Saturday morning for a third consecutive day.

Authorities warned of new waves of high-speed drones approaching the capital, while the sound of air defenses could be heard across the city.

YOUNG SUFFERING AGAIN

A 14-year-old girl was killed in a drone strike in the Boryspil district, while Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said a two-year-old girl died after being struck by a downed drone.

Ukrainian officials say Russia has increasingly deployed ballistic missiles and faster, jet-powered drones that are more difficult to intercept.

The continuing attacks have renewed Kyiv’s calls for additional Western air-defense systems as Russia’s war against Ukraine continues to claim lives far beyond the front lines.
