Hindu Nationalists Attack Christians in India

By Joseph DeCaro, Worthy News Correspondent

NEW DELHI, INDIA (Worthy News)– On Monday, Hindu nationalists beat about 150 members of a Pentecostal community in Sirisguda, India, with sticks, according to AsiaNews.

The violence began after the Pentecostals had refused to “donate” to a local Hindu temple.

“Anti-Christian attacks continue in India and fear and insecurity are growing in minority communities,” Sajan George, president of the Global Council of Indian Christians, told AsiaNews.

Tuesday in Madhya Pradesh, a group of 16 people stopped two Pentecostal clergymen returning from a wedding; the group searched the Christians and after finding Bibles in their bags, they ripped them apart and then attacked their owners.

The Hindu fundamentalist groups responsible for these attacks are part of the Sangh Parivar, an umbrella term for India’s nationalist groups, notably the Bharatiya Janata Party that won this year’s parliamentary election.
