7.9 Earthquake in Alaska Triggers Tsunami Warning

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA (Worthy News)– A magnitude-7.9 earthquake off the coast of Alaska triggered a tsunami warning.

An earthquake of 7.9 is approximately an energy release equivalent to 10-15 megatons of TNT. In comparison, a 6.0 earthquake is the equivalent of the “Little Boy” atomic bomb that was dropped over Hiroshima, or 15 kilotons of TNT.
