Over 15 Rockets Fired into Israel; Israel Threatens to Re-Take Gaza

GAZA CITY (Worthy News)– Code Red Rocket alert sirens sounded throughout Sunday night into Monday morning as at least 15 rockets fired from the Gaza Strip exploded in Israel.

Israel retaliated as the Israel Air Force (IAF) launched a targeted attack against an Hamas terrorist cell group responsible for the rocket attacks.

Muhammad Zaid Abid was preparing to launch rockets when he was killed, according to multiple media reports.

For over two weeks, since the beginning of Operation Brother’s Keeper in the West Bank, Israel has seen a spike on rocket attacks. From 13 rockets fired in May to over 60 in June, Israel officials said.

After the latest salvo of rockets on Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, “If the quiet achieved in wake of Pillar of Defense will be broken, and the rocket fire continues, then there will be two options: Either Hamas puts an end to rocket fire, or we put an end to it.”

On Sunday, Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman said Israel should consider a larger military operation into Gaza re-taking control of the Strip.

“We have to decide if we are heading to a scenario of re-taking full control of the strip,” Liberman said in an interview with Army Radio. “We’ve seen that a limited operation just strengthens Hamas, so the alternative is clear. There is no scenario in between.”

Sderot Mayor Alon Davidi called for an “extensive” IDF operation in the Gaza strip.

“To the defense minister, the prime minister, the education minister and also to minister Naftali Bennet, we are saying things clearly,” Davidi said on Army Radio. “The answer to bringing back quiet to the South is an extensive military operation in the Gaza strip.”
