Meriam Ibrahim, Sudanese Woman Sentenced to Death, Arrives in U.S.

WASHINGTON D.C. (Worthy News)– A Sudanese woman who was formerly sentenced to death for refusing to renounce her faith in Christ arrived on a flight from Rome into New Hampshire Thursday after intense diplomatic negotiations to save both her and her family.

Meriam Ibrahim landed in Manchester with her husband Daniel Wani and their two children, Martin and Maya.

Although Ibrahim doesn’t speak English, Wani — a U.S. citizen from southern Sudan — said his family was relieved to finally find a safe haven.

Members of the Sudanese Evangelical Covenant Church had prepared more than a month for the family’s arrival. The Rev. Joel Kruggel told NBC News that they intend to move the family out of Wani’s studio apartment and into a larger home.

“There’s been tons of support. There’s been tons of love. Now the community is focused on helping the family ‘absorb the fact that they are safe in New Hampshire, where life can be closer to normal.'”
