Abbas Appeals to U.N. for Palestinian State

JERUSALEM (Worthy News)– Palestinian officials said Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas will propose to the U.N. Security Council to set a deadline for an Israeli withdraw to the pre-1967 borders, to pave the way for a Palestinian State as part his “day after” plan following the current conflict in the Gaza Strip.

Palestinian officials said Sunday Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas will ask the UN Security Council to set a deadline for Israel to withdraw from lands captured during the 1967 Six Day War.

The areas will then make way for a Palestinian state, they said.

If the council does not approve a resolution, the officials warned the Palestinians will then pursue war crimes charges against Israel in the International Criminal Court.

Aides to the Palestinian president said Sunday that he will soon appeal to the international community to set a deadline for Israel to end its occupation of lands captured in the 1967 Six-Day War and make way for an independent Palestinian state.

The aides said President Mahmoud Abbas would present his proposal as part of a “day after” plan following the end of the current war in the Gaza Strip. Abbas is expected to unveil his plan at a meeting of the Palestinian leadership on Tuesday. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because he has not yet made the plan public.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is expected to announce an “unconventional solution” to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the coming weeks.

He spoke of his diplomatic initiative on Saturday in Cairo during an interview with the Egyptian TV station Balad, but did not provide details about the proposed solution.

Abbas said he would discuss it, however, with Palestinian leaders in Ramallah this week before presenting it to US Secretary of State John Kerry.
