‘Miracle-Faking Spree’: Kenya Bans New Churches

NAIROBI (Worthy News)– Frustrated by “fakirs” peddling false miracles, Kenya’s attorney general has indefinitely banned the registration of new churches, mosques and temples, according to Christianity Today.
The new restrictions also apply to existing religious organizations that must file current registration and financial returns. But Mark Kariuki — chairman of the Evangelical Alliance of Kenya — said stopping new religious registration while regulating existing churches was tantamount to persecution.
The government’s response came after KTN broadcast an exposé of preacher Victor Kanyari, whom the station claimed had asked his flock for payment in advance of promised miracles.
Kanyari has already admitted to “encouraging” members of his church to give false testimonies.
As a result, evangelical groups in Kenya have united together to stand against any deception that could besmirch the reputation of the church.
