Obama vetoes Keystone XL

WASHINGTON D.C. (Worthy News)– President Obama used his veto power for the third time of his presidency to nix legislation authorizing construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, sending the bill back to Congress for an override attempt, the Washington Examiner reported.

The rejection Tuesday was expected. The federal government has been reviewing the Canada-to-Texas project for more than six years, and the White House has consistently said it wouldn’t accept legislation circumventing that process.

“The presidential power to veto legislation is one I take seriously. But I also take seriously my responsibility to the American people. And because this act of Congress conflicts with established executive branch procedures and cuts short thorough consideration of issues that could bear on our national interest — including our security, safety, and environment — it has earned my veto,” Obama said in his veto message to Congress. — [wp_colorbox_media url=”http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/obama-vetoes-keystone-xl/article/2560641″ type=”iframe” hyperlink=”Source”]
