Bush Takes Lead in New Poll Despite Barrage of Media Attacks

(AgapePress) – A new poll shows George W. Bush regaining the lead over Al Gore. The news comes amidst a flurry of media reports this week which have put Bush in a very negative light.

The Portrait of America tracking this week of more than 2,000 likely voters shows Bush with the support of 43% of those surveyed, while Gore has 41%. The poll comes after the results of several others since the Democratic Convention which put Gore in front of the Texas governor.

But despite the good news for the Bush camp, The Washington Times notes it has been a bad few days for the Republican Presidential contender, as far as news coverage of his campaign.

Many in the major media, including ABC, The Washington Post, and The Los Angeles Times have been quick to pounce on some verbal gaffes Bush has made in trying to defend his budget and tax cut proposals. The one that seemed to get the most coverage was his reference to billions when he meant trillions.

Pollster John Zogby says in the long run, such mistakes will not likely make a difference to the voter. Nevertheless, many conservatives have learned not to underestimate what the liberal media can do to destroy a candidate’s image.
