US Airbus Crashes In New York

by Worthy News Staff

NEW YORK, USA (Worthy News) — A US Airways Airbus A320 plane carrying 150 passengers came down in the Hudson River in New York City Thursday, January 15, and ships rushed to the scene to rescue passengers.

Most,  if not all, passengers miraculously survived, American media reported.  A Homeland Security official was quoted as saying “There is no indication that the incident is security related.”

Residents in New York were on edge, still recalling the September 11, 2001 attacks in which pilots deliberately crashed two planes into the twin towers of the World Trade Center.

The plane, which the FAA said was flight 1549 from LaGuardia Airport to Charlotte, is partially submerged, television footage showed. Two of the plane’s engines were reportedly disabled by bird strikes.

No casualties were reported and passengers could be seen waving to rescue workers on the wings of the aircraft.  “A couple of minutes after taking off we heard a loud bang, the plane shook a bit and immediately we could smell smoke and fire,” a passenger told the Cable News Network (CNN).

He said he believes that all those on board had emerged “unscathed”. Emergency officials and pleasure craft were seen surrounding the partly submerged plane to rescue passengers.
