Researchers in Israel discover possible temporary resting place of Ark of the Covenant

(Worthy News) – A large stone slab was discovered in Beit Shemesh, Israel that researchers say is reminiscent of the biblical description of the resting place of the Ark of the Covenant in the book of 1 Samuel.
Amidst a 3,100-year-old temple currently under excavation, archaeologists from Tel Aviv University last summer found a huge flat stone sitting upon two others in an arrangement they said was not natural.
1 Samuel 6:15 says that the “Levites took down the ark of the LORD, together with the chest containing the gold objects, and placed them on the large rock” in Beit Shemesh after the Philistines returned it for having incurred plagues.
The site of the temple, researchers say, was razed in 1,200 BC and covered with animal dung, likely “an intentional desecration,” according to Schlomo Bunimovitz of Tel Aviv University.
