(Worthy News) – US President Donald Trump was acquitted of both charges leveled against him by the House of Representatives Wednesday, concluding the third impeachment trial in US history.

The Republican-majority Senate voted 52-48 to acquit Trump of abuse of power and 53-47 to acquit him of obstruction of congress for a phone call with the Ukranian President that Democrats said indicated Trump tried to pressure a foreign government to investigate rival Joe Biden.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell called the Democrat-initiated process “the most rushed, least fair, and least thorough” impeachment attempt in history, saying the charges were “constitutionally incoherent” and didn’t “even approach a case for the first presidential removal in history.”

Following the trial, a new Gallup poll showed Trump’s approval rating at its highest since he took office in 2017 at 49 percent.
