(Worthy News) – A church in China formerly part of the government-recognized Three-self branch of churches was shut down, propelling around 200 believers to begin to meet in secret.

The “House of Cornelius” in China’s southwestern Sichuan province became the victim of the new Regulations on Religious Affairs passed by the communist government of President Xi Jinping in February when police stripped the pastor of his license and changed the locks on the church in November.

“The more the government persecutes us, the more actively we’ll share the Gospel,” a member of the church told Bitter Winter. “As long as we worship God, His temple stays in our hearts.”

The church has now begun meeting in secret small groups, as believers in the nation that is ranked the 23rd worst persecutor of Christians worldwide face the “system of persecution for the future,” according to Open Doors USA CEO David Curry.
