(Worthy News) – Syria announced it has taken full control of all former U.S. military bases following the complete withdrawal of United States Central Command forces, marking a significant shift in the region’s strategic landscape.

In an official statement, Syria’s foreign ministry said the restoration of sovereignty over previously contested areas—including the northeast and border regions—reflects ongoing efforts to unify the country under a single national authority. The transition follows a negotiated agreement between the government in Damascus and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

U.S. officials confirmed the withdrawal was completed in a “deliberate and conditions-based transition.” While American troops have exited major bases, Washington emphasized it will continue supporting partner-led counterterrorism operations aimed at preventing a resurgence of ISIS.

Convoys of U.S. military vehicles and equipment were seen departing key installations, including the Qasrak base in northeastern Syria. The drawdown began earlier this year, following the transfer of approximately 5,700 suspected ISIS militants from detention centers in Syria to Iraqi custody for prosecution.

The American military presence in Syria began in 2014, as part of an international coalition formed to defeat ISIS. Although the group lost its territorial caliphate in 2019, it has continued to operate through sleeper cells, carrying out intermittent attacks in Syria, Iraq, and beyond.

Syrian officials welcomed the handover, describing it as a step toward national unity and stability. The government also pointed to improved relations with Washington, highlighting a meeting between Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House last November as a turning point.

Regional analysts noted that the final phase of the withdrawal was conducted through Jordan, likely to minimize the risk of attacks from Iranian-backed militias operating in Iraq.

The development follows Syria’s recent alignment with the international coalition against ISIS, signaling a shift in its role from adversary to partner in counterterrorism efforts.

Prophetic Perspective

Many prophetic observers pay close attention to developments surrounding Damascus in light of Isaiah 17, which speaks of a future burden concerning Damascus and dramatic changes involving the city. As geopolitical shifts continue to unfold in Syria, some view these developments as part of a broader prophetic timeline, watching closely how events in the region may align with biblical prophecy concerning the nations.
