Likud Surges in Recent Polls

(Worthy News) – A new poll shows that if Israeli elections were held today, the Likud party led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would remain the most popular party, with Benny Gantz’s Blue and White party trailing in fourth place, Israel News reported.
The poll conducted by Professor Yitzhak Katz of Maagar Mochot for 103 FM Radio showed Likud would win 38 seats, Yesh Atid-Telem 17 seats, the Joint Arab List 15 seats, and Blue and White 10 seats.
The right-wing Yamina party and the Ultra-Orthodox Sephardic Shas party would each win nine seats. Avigdor Lieberman’s right-wing Yisrael Beytenu party and the Ashkenazic-haredi UTJ party would each win eight seats. The left-wing Meretz party would win six seats but Labor would fail to cross the electoral threshold.
The poll also asked participants if they were for or against Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit’s decision to block a foreign benefactor from covering the costs of PM Netanyahu’s legal defense against corruption charges. The PM had asked the Permits Committee at the State Comptroller’s Office to allow him to receive NIS 10 million (about $3 million) from his friend Spencer Partrich, a real estate tycoon who is also a witness in one of the cases. Mandelbit said it would be the equivalent of receiving an illicit gift.
Sixty-four percent of those polled said they supported Mandelblit’s decision and 36% were opposed to it.
