Following the recent peace agreement between Israel and the UAE, a major UAE English-language daily newspaper carried the words “Salam, Shalom” (“Peace” in Arabic and Hebrew) on its front page Tuesday, Israel National News reports.

The caption heading Tuesday’s Khaleej Times is set above a photo of Monday’s historic talks in Abu Dhabi between Israeli National Security Adviser Meir Ben-Shabbat, UAE National Security Advisor Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed and US Senior Presidential Advisor Jared Kushner.

The arrival of the American and Israeli delegations in Abu Dhabi was a further major breakthrough in itself: the El Al flight which brought them was the first-ever direct commercial flight between Israel and the Arab Gulf. Moreover, Saudi Arabia allowed the plane to fly through its airspace, even though the country has no formal relations with Israel.

The plane itself had the words “Salam, Shalom and Peace” emblazoned on its cockpit, and displayed US and Israeli flags as it landed in Abu Dhabi at 3:38 local time on Monday, the Daily Mail reported.

In a further celebration of the normalization of relations between Israel and the UAE, the flight carrying Kushner and the Israeli delegation was given the number LY 971 in honor of the UAE’s dialing code. The flight back would have the number LY 972, Israel’s international dialing code.
