(Worthy News) – Symbolizing his eagerness to open up America despite the coronavirus outbreak, President Donald Trump returned to the White House Monday night after leaving the military hospital where he was treated for COVID-19.

Landing at the White House on the Marine One helicopter, Trump, the South Portico steps, removed his mask and declared, “I feel good.”

He gave a double thumbs-up to the departing helicopter from the portico terrace, where aides had arranged American flags for the sunset occasion.

Media commentators were quick to condemn his show-must-go-on moves citing a nation that is still overcoming a pandemic.

Critics questioned why he entered the White House without a protective mask. They cited infectious disease experts as suggesting the president’s own illness had not caused him to rethink “his often-cavalier attitude” toward the disease.

The coronavirus has infected the first lady and several White House aides, including new cases revealed on Monday. None of the officials have died, and those infected earlier this year have already returned to work.

MANY KILLED

The novel virus killed more than 210,000 Americans on a population of 333 million people, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

It suggests that the U.S. has the world’s highest COVID-19 death toll of any
country. Some experts have questioned the accurateness of that assessment, citing confusion over how many people had other underlying health conditions.

The novel virus has killed more than 1 million people worldwide in less than seven months since the World Health Organization declared it a pandemic, according to official data.

However, Trump made clear in several comments that while taking the COVID-19 disease seriously, he does not want to create panic. The president also said it was essential to reopen what is still the world’s strongest economy.

BLUE ROOM

Trump entered the White House, where aides were visible milling about the Blue Room, without wearing a face covering, reporters noted.

The president left Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where his doctor, Navy Cdr. Sean Conley said earlier Monday that the president remains contagious.

Trump would not be fully “out of the woods” for another week, but the doctor added that Trump had met or exceeded standards for discharge from the hospital.

President Trump was due to continue his recovery at the White House, where the reach of the outbreak impacting the highest levels of the U.S. government is still being uncovered.
