(Worthy News) – Both the US and Russia have sent military reinforcement to Syria in recent days, in separate moves apparently timed to coincide with the inauguration of President-Elect Joe Biden on January 20, AMN reports.

A US-led coalition sent a large convoy of military vehicles to the United States army base in the Deir Ezzor governate of northeastern Syria at the weekend. Then, on Monday, the Russian warship Saratov entered eastern Mediterranean waters on its way to the Syrian port-city of Tartous, where it is expected to dock in the next few days.

Large Russian navy landing ships, auxiliary vessels, and chartered ships are reportedly transporting supplies to an aviation group based at the Hmeimim Russian airbase in Syria’s Latakia overnight, AMN said.

The Russian navy currently has a fleet of more than 10 combat and auxiliary ships in the Mediterranean, AMN reports. In the last five years, Russia has increased its shipments to Syria as it has been supplying the Syrian Arab Army with weapons as well as providing humanitarian aid.

The US convoy was reportedly seen entering Syria from Iraq this past weekend. The Syrian Arab News Agency said the US-led coalition had transported military and logistical reinforcements to the American base in Deir Ezzor, having entered Syria from the Al-Waleed Crossing, which is controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces, AMN said.
