(Worthy News) – As 150 million Americans are placed under severe winter warnings, the Salvation Army (SA), an international Christian humanitarian aid organization, has been preparing to help those struggling in the massive deadly storm that continues to batter huge swathes of the US.

The Salvation Army has 7,600 centers across the country and is offering visitors access to cold weather shelters, warming centers, and hot food.

In offering aid during the crisis, the Salvation Army reports it has seen an increase in visitors as freezing temperatures hit America last week. Speaking to ABC7 News, SA Major David Robinson in Lawton Oklahoma said: “The numbers keep growing every day with it continuing to be cold but we want people to know that we’re here and there’s a place they go to stay warm.” Accordingly, the Lawton SA has extended its opening hours for people to take shelter. Visitors can have free meals and free day and night stays with the Salvation Army, Robinson said.

The Salvation Army is also handing out winter clothing and providing food to emergency responders and transportation to people who are stranded on icy, snowy roads.

As of the morning of February 17, twenty-three people were reported to have been killed in incidents related to this 2021 US storm.
