(Worthy News) – Europe’s top human rights court on Thursday rebuffed worried parents, saying it supports the Czech Republic in its mandatory pre-school vaccinations.

Though cases pre-date the pandemic, childhood vaccinations come under increasing scrutiny as the Coronavirus spreads across Europe.

The landmark ruling by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) came after families were fined or had their children refused entry to pre-schools because they were not vaccinated.

The ECHR found that while the Czech policy interfered with the right to privacy, there was a need to protect public health.

Under Czech law, unless medically exempted, children must be vaccinated against nine generally known diseases, like poliomyelitis, hepatitis B, or tetanus.

“The Czech health policy could therefore be said to be consistent with the best interests of the children who were its focus,” the ECHR added.

Thursday’s ruling by the Strasbourg, France-based court also comes amid a debate at what age Coronavirus vaccines should be given.

The Czech Republic is among the countries with the highest recorded Coronavirus death tolls. The eastern European nation recorded more than 27,000 COVID-19 deaths on a population of some 10.7 million people.
