(Worthy News) – A new study by the Arizona University Cultural Research Center (CRC) shows that 43% of American Millennials (18-36), and 31% of Gen Xers (37-54) do not know or do not care whether God exists.

Titled ‘The American Worldview Inventory 2021,’ the study found that the younger generations have veered away from the religious worldviews of the older Baby Boomer (55-74) and Builder (over 75) generations: younger Americans “threaten to reshape the nation’s religious parameters beyond recognition,” the study found.

According to the study, 40% of Americans aged 55 or older can be considered born-again Christians, but only 26% of Gen Xers and 16% of Millennials can be classified as such.

The study found that the younger generations are less likely to believe that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God and more like to believe that horoscopes provide guidance for life than the older generations are.

Just 30% of Millennials and 47% of Gen Xers believe that the universe was designed, created and sustained by God. This compared to 62% and 67% for Boomers and Builders respectively.

Commenting on the results of the study Dr. George Barna, Director of Research, CRC, asserted in the report: “The influence of the Christian church has diminished while the influence of arts, entertainment, and news media has exploded.”
