Poll: 46% of US voters believe Fauci lied over “gain-of-function” virus research; opinion divided along partisan/race lines

(Worthy News) – A new Rasmussen Reports poll has shown that only 40% of likely American voters believe chief medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci has been truthful about US government funding for “gain-of-function” virus research: 46% believe he lied, and 15% are not sure. Moreover, the poll showed divisions along partisan and racial lines on the issue of whether Fauci lied or not.

The poll was conducted on June 6-7 2021, and surveyed 1,000 likely US voters, Rasmussen said.

According to the survey, majorities of Republican voters (66%) and unaffiliated voters (51%) believe Fauci lied about US government funding for gain-of-function virus research. Only 22% of Republicans and 29% of unaffiliated voters believe Fauci has been truthful, Rasmussen said. By contrast, 63% of Democrat voters believe Fauci has told the truth about US government funding for gain of function virus research.

The poll found that among those who Strongly Approve of President Joe Biden’s job performance, 79% believe Fauci has told the truth; 84% of those Strongly Disapprove of Biden’s performance believe Fauci lied.

Additionally, the poll found that 51% of black voters believe Fauci has told the truth about US government funding for gain of function virus research, while only 37% of whites and 39% of other minorities agree, Rasmussen said.
