Bipartisan group of Senators agree framework for infrastructure bill

(Worthy News) – A bipartisan group of senators was able to reach an agreement Wednesday on the outline of an infrastructure plan that includes $579 billion in new spending, CBS News reports. The senators headed to the White House Thursday to discuss their proposal with US President Joe Biden.
The group of 10 Democrat and 11 Republican Senators worked on the infrastructure proposal for weeks, CBS News said. The lawmakers focussed particularly on finding ways to pay for the package as Republicans reject tax hikes and Democrats are against raising taxes for anyone earning less than $400,000 annually.
According to the Washington Examiner, Republican Sens. Susan Collins of Maine and Rob Portman of Ohio, and Montana Democratic Sen. Jon Tester, said in a statement that details need to be worked out about how the plan will be paid for, but that a framework had been agreed.
Making a statement about the agreement reached Wednesday, White House press secretary Jen Psaki: “The group made progress towards an outline of a potential agreement.” Psaki added that the President “invited the group to come to the White House tomorrow to discuss this in person.”
The framework agreement was reached after a White House legislative team met with the senators twice on Wednesday, CBS News said. The lawmakers were racing against time to agree on a proposal before the start of the Senate recess which begins next week.
