(Worthy News) – Pakistani police have reportedly detained several suspects after a Christian worker died following attacks by co-workers.

Shahzad Masih, 36, was allegedly confronted by two colleagues publicly identified as Muhammad Abdullah and Muhammad Fizan on June 18 at GM Bora factory in Faisalabad.

Lawyers of Shahzad’s family claim the pair subjected him to a violent “indecent assault,” causing severe internal injuries. Despite hospital treatment, Shahzad died on June 20, Worthy News learned.

Christians said Shahzad began working at the factory earlier that month and stayed in factory quarters with both co-workers when he was assaulted.

Police detained Muhammad Abdullah and Muhammad Fizan and factory manager Asad Mahmood, whose involvement in the assault was confirmed by Shahzad before he died, Christian rights activists said.

The case underscored that Christians are often harassed at the workplace in Pakistan, according to advocacy groups.

Pakistani Christians hope the murder trial underway will lead to justice for his family and other Christians in low-paid employment throughout the Islamic nation.
