Taliban Closer To Afghan Capital After Seizing Key City

(Worthy News) – The militant Taliban group was closing Thursday in on Afghanistan’s capital Kabul after the US already urged citizens to leave “immediately.”
Fighters seized the third-largest city, Herat, according to multiple sources.
The group also seized the strategic Afghan city of Ghazni on Thursday — just 150 kilometers (95 miles), Kabul.
The US was reportedly sending forces to help evacuate embassy staff.
It came amid mounting concerns that the Taliban will take over the fractured country, despite warnings by the West, they will be isolated.
In Europe, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas already said Germany, Europe’s largest economy, will pull all aid if the Islamists take over.
The Islamist Taliban reportedly captured the critical cities after capturing huge areas already.
If confirmed, the capture of Herat makes it the eleventh provincial capital to fall to the insurgents in the past week. It provides the militants with a route to the capital from their strongholds in the south, observers say.
The international community was trying Thursday to pressure the Taliban to halt their offensive, but there are no signs they would do so. And in the lead it should read: The militant Taliban group was closing in Thursday on Afghanistan’s capital Kabul after the U.S. already urged citizens to leave “immediately.”
