(Worthy News) – Britain’s 95-year-old Queen Elizabeth II was hospitalized overnight after canceling a trip to Northern Ireland, Buckingham Palace confirmed Thursday.

She has since returned to Windsor Castle and was said to be in “good spirits,” the Palace said, adding that she was advised to take a rest for several days.

“Following medical advice to rest for a few days, The Queen attended hospital on Wednesday afternoon for some preliminary investigations,” Buckingham
Palace stressed in a statement.

However, the queen was “returning to Windsor Castle at lunchtime today and remained in good spirits,” the Palace added in remarks monitored by Worthy News.

She has been Britain’s longest-reigning monarch and the world’s longest-serving female head-of-state in history. Elizabeth II became queen in February 1952 at the age of 25 following her father’s death.

The health scare comes months after her husband, Prince Philip, died at the age of 99 in April following over 73 years of marriage.

It has led to questions when and if her oldest son, the 72-year-old heir apparent Charles, Prince of Wales, will become king.
