(Worthy News) – Three students were killed and eight people wounded after a 15-year-old opened fire in his Michigan high school at a time when the United States is still reeling from terror.

The attack happened at Oxford High School in Oxford Township, about 22,000 people 30 miles (48km) north of Detroit.

The attacker is in custody after being arrested at the school, police confirmed. Officers reportedly also recovered a semi-automatic handgun and ammunition.

Oakland county undersheriff Mike McCabe identified the three students killed as a 16-year-old boy and two girls, ages 14 and 17.

He told media that two of the wounded were undergoing surgery on Tuesday evening, and six others were stable. One of the people injured was a schoolteacher, authorities said.

The suspect’s motives for the attack at Oxford high school in Oxford Township, near Detroit, were not yet known, McCabe added at a news conference.

NO RESISTANCE

“A 15-year-old sophomore student of Oxford high school has been taken into custody, and the handgun was recovered,” explained a statement from the sheriff’s office.

There was “no resistance during the arrest, and the suspect has asked for a lawyer and has not made any statements as to a motive,” it added.

Yet, the attack underscored mounting concerns about gun violence and other attacks in the nation.

Last week an 8-year-old boy became the sixth person to die in the Christmas parade attack in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

Five adults were killed, and more than 60 other people were injured after the driver of a sports utility vehicle or SUV plowed through musicians, dancers, and onlookers during the annual holiday in the Milwaukee suburb.
