(Worthy News) – As many as eight people were injured after a Russian teenager tried to blow himself up in an apparent suicide attack outside a Christian school and a monastery, officials said Monday.

Russia’s interior ministry confirmed that an 18-year-old man, a graduate of the Orthodox school in Serpukhov, attempted suicide when detonating an explosive device.

The man, Vladislav Struzhenkov, reportedly survived. A 15-year-old was among the eight injured, according to authorities and local media.

The number of victims could have been even higher as the former high school student was planning to attack during morning prayers, sources said. But his explosive device went off prematurely at the entrance to the convent near the school.

Russian media citing sources said the teen’s animosity towards teachers and students may have motivated the attack.

However, prosecutors say they are still investigating amid concerns about growing violence in and around schools in Russia.

people are currently praying.
