North Korea Fires Apparent Ballistic Missiles

TOKYO (Worthy News) – South Korea and Japan’s coast guard believe North Korea may have fired two ballistic missiles in what would be the fourth such weapons test this month.

It comes as the country wants to show its military might towards the United States amid ongoing sanctions over its nuclear program, officials said.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said the missiles launched from an area in Sunan, the location of Pyongyang’s international airport.

The launch was also detected by Japan, where Prime Minister Fumio Kishida instructed his government to do its utmost to gather information about the missiles.

Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi said they landed outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone.

North Korea launched at least one unidentified projectile towards the Sea of Japan on Monday, local time, the South Korean military said, amid concerns about the secluded nation’s nuclear program.

The missiles were fired east from the Soonan airport area of Pyongyang, added South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff.

“Currently, South Korean military is surveilling related activities to the possible additional launch while maintaining readiness,” it said.

The launch follows tests on January 1st, 5th, and 14th, officials said.

Experts also believe the activity is reprisal for new sanctions the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden imposed last week over the North’s continued test launches.
