(Worthy News) – Jews in New York City have suffered an intense spate of antisemitic attacks, including a violent attack on a school bus with Jewish children inside, the Times of Israel (TOI) reports.

Jews are NYC’s most targeted group for attacks, accounting for 38% of all hate crimes in the city.
“A slew of anti-Jewish incidents in the New York region in recent weeks has included numerous acts of vandalism such as spray painting swastikas, verbal abuse, blasting Jews with snow, spitting on children, and physical violence,” the Times of Israel said in its report.

On Sunday in the Borough Park neighborhood of Brooklyn, the driver of an SUV swerved in front of a bus with Jewish children from Hebrew School. The driver got out of his car, ran to the bus, and smashed the windshield, TOI said. Also in Brooklyn, on Friday night a Jewish teenager was hit in the face by a man who had jumped out of a minivan while a second man videoed the assault. In Queens, over the weekend vandals wrote “Fuck the Jews” above a dentist’s office sign.

In Twitter statements about the violence, NYC Mayor Eric Adams said earlier this week: “Make no mistake, an attack on our Jewish community is an attack on every New Yorker…We won’t let this vicious hatred go unanswered in our city.”

Mayor Adams and New York Governor Kathy Hochul have ordered the NYPD and state police to investigate the attacks. However, there were 198 confirmed antisemitic attacks on NYC Jews last year, but only 58 arrests.
