(Worthy News) – The slaughter of Christians by Islamic extremists in Nigeria continues unabated and, on March 5, suspected Fulani herdsmen murdered a 25-year-old man on his way home from a Lutheran Church convention in Adamawa state, and cut off his fingers, Sahara Reporters said.

The man murdered on March 5 was Sheriff Yongo from Dong in the Demsa Local Government Area of the state, SR reports. He was attacked and killed by Fulani gunmen after leaving the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN) convention in Numan.

Yongo had been with two other Christians, Gambo Dong, and Benedict Paul, who managed to escape the attackers.

“They flashed torchlights at us and staged themselves, group by group,” Gambo told reporters. “We ran into the bush while Sheriff was caught by the assailants. We waited to see him but to no avail, only to discover his body was macheted, battered and his hand and fingers cut off.”

“These brutal killings have been persistent along the Dong axis, we lost so many youths and kidnappings have also been on the increase,” Gambo added.

Thousands of Nigerian Christians have been slaughtered by ISIS West Africa, Boko Haram, and Fulani Islamic terrorist groups that are deeply embedded in Nigeria: rights groups, including the US Commission on International Religious Freedom, have warned repeatedly of Christian genocide in Nigeria.

However, the Islamic-led Nigerian government has downplayed the crisis as a struggle over land and has failed to take action. Neither has the international community taken steps to hold Nigeria to account over the slaughter.

Nigeria ranked number one in the world last year for the number of Christians murdered on account of their faith.
