(Worthy News) – Israel’s Defense Minister Benny Gantz and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid have told a gathering of 80 ambassadors to Israel that time is running out on the possibility of a good Iranian nuclear deal, World Israel News (WIN) reports.

The warning was given at a briefing for the ambassadors about the recent “Negev Summit” hosted by Israel for talks on regional security and the economy.

Among other major issues, such as Israel’s “condemnation of the Russian invasion and war crimes,” the two Israeli leaders briefed the ambassadors on the continuing Iranian threat amid the proximity of a revived and renewed Iran deal.

Gantz told the ambassadors that, since August last year, Iran has increased its enriched 60% Uranium from 10 kg to 50 kg, WIN reports. There is no civilian use for 60% Uranium, WIN notes in its report. However, that percentage can be easily upgraded to the 90% needed for a nuclear bomb.

“We are in a race against time,” Gantz said. “We want a good [Iran nuclear] agreement, an agreement that has no expiration date which gives Iran legitimacy to advance its nuclear program following that date, with extensive oversight anywhere and anytime and oversight of the ballistic missiles that Iran is developing,” he added. “It is important to remember – there is no vacuum and if there is no agreement, Plan B must be used – to use force, to exert economic pressure, to exert political pressure.”

Iran is reportedly close to agreeing to a renewed nuclear deal with Western powers, following America’s 2018 unilateral withdrawal from the original joint Comprehensive Plan of Action treaty brokered by the Obama administration in 2015.

In a statement about the progress of a revived deal, a US State Department spokesperson told reporters on Monday that the “only long-term proposition that is acceptable to us is the fact that Iran must never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon.

As I said before, we continue to believe that the best means to achieve that right now is through a mutual return to compliance with the Iran deal.” However, the spokesman said: “eventually that will no longer be the case when the Iranian nuclear program goes beyond the point at which the JCPOA would still work to our advantage.”
