(Worthy News) – The Al-Shabaab Islamic terror group affiliated with al-Qaeda on Sunday killed nine civilians and wounded 47 others in Somalia during its second attack on a hotel in three months, International Christian Concern (ICC) reports.

“Al-Shabaab poses a considerable threat to Christians in both Somalia and surrounding countries, especially Kenya,” ICC said.

The attack on October 23 began at 12:45 local time when a booby-trapped car rammed the entrance of Hotel Tawakal in the city of Kismayo, and the four terrorists involved began a siege. Of the four attackers, one eventually blew himself up, and the other three were killed by security forces at around 7 pm.

Students leaving a nearby school were among the civilians killed, ICC reports.
Sunday’s attack was very similar to an Al-Shabaab attack on a hotel in Mogadishu on August 19, ICC noted. In that attack, a 30-hour siege ended with twenty-one people dead and over 117 wounded.

“Christian communities in Kenya, which shares a border with Somalia, are frequently targeted when Al-Shabaab militants make excursions into Kenyan territory,” ICC said in its report. “Please pray for the families of the victims of the two hotel attacks, as well as for the Christian communities suffering from attacks in Kenya.”
