Dutch Court Challenges “Obsessive” Sperm Donor With Hundreds Of Children

AMSTERDAM (Worthy News) – An “obsessive” sperm donor believed to have fathered more than 550 children in the Netherlands and around the world was challenged in a Dutch court Thursday to force him to stop donating.
The case has underscored broader ethical concerns about the practice. Mothers attending the trial accused the donor of “playing God.”
They also fear it could cause potential psychological harm to existing offspring.
Thursday’s case has raised broader questions about sperm donations.
Last year, Donorkind, the Dutch donor child foundation, matches recipients with willing registered donors. It revealed that at least 10 Dutch doctors had illegally used their sperm over the years to impregnate women.
Although not a medic, “Jonathan M” (41) from The Hague has been many times more prolific than even the most notorious of the known donors. The most active of whom was Jan Karbaat, a doctor who died in 2017 after fathering 81 children at last count.
“Jonathan M has a global reach via the internet,” said Ties van der Meer, chair of the donor child foundation. “He does business with large international sperm banks. And officialdom has done nothing to stop him. That’s why we’re seeking an injunction through the courts.”
Jonathan M argued at the trial that he wanted to challenge abortion by promoting life and that he had the right to have children.
A court ruling is due later this month.
