BALTIMORE, USA (Worthy News) – Residents in two U.S. states plunged into mourning on Sunday after separate mass shootings killed several and injured dozens. In Baltimore, Maryland, a teenager was among two people dead following a mass shooting there, while in Wichita, Kansas, seven people were shot, and two others trampled amid a shooting inside a nightclub, authorities confirmed.

In the Baltimore case, an 18-year-old female was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 20-year-old male was pronounced dead after being taken to a local hospital, police said.

At least about 30 were injured, including three people who are in critical condition, according to officials familiar with the situation.

The incident happened in the Brooklyn Homes area in the south of the city in the state of Maryland, where people had gathered for an event called “Brooklyn Day.” Media reports said 20 to 30 shots were fired.

The mass shooting unfolded around 12:30 a.m. local time in the Brooklyn Homes neighborhood in the city’s southern district.

Acting Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley said police officers rushed to the scene when numerous 911 callers reported shots being fired.

BROOKLYN HOMES

The incident happened in the Brooklyn Homes area in the south of the city in the state of Maryland, where people had gathered for an event called “Brooklyn Day.” Media reports said 20 to 30 shots were fired.

The mass shooting unfolded around 12:30 a.m. in the Brooklyn Homes neighborhood in the city’s southern district. Acting Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley said police officers rushed to the scene when numerous 911 callers reported shots being fired.

Worley said the barrage of gunfire broke out during a giant block party at a housing development in the 800 block of Gretna Court.

“When officers got here, we located multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds,” Worley recalled. No suspects were arrested in the violence Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott described as “a reckless, cowardly act.”

“This morning, all of Baltimore is grieving the lives that were lost here, and our hearts are with those who are recovering as a result of this mass shooting,” Scott told reporters near the crime scene. “We will not stop until we find those cowards who decided to just shoot dozens of people, causing people to lose their lives.”

No motive was immediately apparent.

WICHITA NIGHTCLUB SHOOTING

Police were also investigating another mass shooting in Wichita, where investigators said people were shot and several trampled when violence broke out early Sunday inside a nightclub in Wichita’s 222 North Washington Street.

Luitenant Aaron Moses, executive officer of the Wichita Police Department, said police heard screaming and shots fired from inside the building at 12:58 a.m. local time.

Seven people were shot, and two others were trampled due to the “mass exodus” of people fleeing from the club, he said.

One of those injured is in critical condition, explained Moses, while all the other victims are being treated at local hospitals.

The ages of the victims range from 21 to 34 years old.

Sunday’s mass shootings have underscored an ongoing debate about what critics have called a “gun violence epidemic” engulfing the United States.
