Taliban Condemned Pregnant Woman to Be Flogged and Executed

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN (Worthy News)– Three Taliban mullahs condemned a pregnant Afghan widow sentencing her to being publicly flogged and then shot three times in the head in a remote part of Western Afghanistan, Worthy News learned on August 10.
Bibi Sanubar, 35, was kept in captivity for three days before being publicly tried by a Taliban court of having an “illicit affair” that left her pregnant. Before being executed, she was first lashed 200 times according to the deputy provincial police Chief, Ghulam Mohammad Sayeedi, according to an AFP report.
The shooting is a harsh reminder of the Taliban’s rule in Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001, during which public stoning, lashings and executions were meted out to those accused of adultery or sex out of marriage. Those found guilty of theft or robbery often had their hands and feet chopped off by the Taliban regime.
MAN INVOLVED NOT PUNISHED
After the execution, carried out by the local Taliban commander, Mohammad Yousaf, Sanubar’s body was dumped in a government controlled area. The man allegedly involved in the affair with Sanubar has not been punished.
KILLING CONDEMNED
The killing has been condemned by the religious council for Western Afghanistan, as well as the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission head, Abdul Qadir Rahimi.
“Any such trial is unacceptable and is a violation of human rights. All trials must take place in an authorized court observing every single measure of justice,” Rahimi told the AFP news organization.
The Quadis region where the killing took place is directly under Taliban control, and raises questions with regard to planned troop withdrawals from Afghanistan by NATO troops in the coming years.
Earlier this week, six American and two European aid workers were massacred by the Taliban in northern Afghanistan along with two Afghan colleagues as they were returning to Kabul from a medical mission in a remote mountainous area.
