(Worthy News) – A new report from the Jewish Agency for Israel shows there has been a substantial decrease in Jewish immigration to Israel from Western countries in the first half of this year while there has been a significant rise in immigration from Russia in the same, the Jerusalem Post reported exclusively.

According to the Jewish Agency report, obtained exclusively by the Jerusalem Post, the number of Jews who immigrated to Israel from January-June 2023 was recorded at 889. This was a marked decrease of 44% compared to the same period last year.

On the other hand, the JA report shows there has been a surge in Jewish immigration from Russia, likely triggered by the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine, JPost said. The report shows there were 22,851 Russian Jewish immigrants to Israel from January-June 2023, representing a 32% increase from the same period last year.

Jpost reports that the increased immigration from Russia contrasts sharply with a substantial decline in Jewish immigration from Ukraine: just 1,463 Ukrainians immigrated to Israel between January-June this year – one-tenth of the number who arrived during the same period in 2022.

“This sharp decrease is most likely tied to the ongoing war, disrupting migration and further fueling the increase in immigration from Russia,” JPost noted.
