DAMASCUS/JERUSALEM (Worthy News) – Israel’s military confirmed Saturday its artillery had struck targets in Syria from where two rockets were fired toward Israeli territory, falling in open areas. The Syrian defense ministry said Israel had been targeting its Aleppo airport late Saturday.

“The Israeli enemy carried out an air attack from the direction of the Mediterranean Sea, west of Latakia, targeting Aleppo International Airport, which led to material damage to the airport and it being out of service,” the ministry said.

Syrian state media reported that the Aleppo airport is out of service following the airstrike. The well-informed Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Saturday’s strikes hit the airport “hours after it went back into service, knocking it out of service again.”

The reported strikes come just days after Israeli forces reportedly launched missiles at the airports in Aleppo and Damascus, damaging their runways.

Reuters news agency quoted unidentified sources saying Israel’s strikes on the airports are intended to disrupt Iranian supply lines into Syria.

ROCKETS FROM SYRIA

Saturday strikes followed the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmation that two rockets were launched from Syria at northern Israel on Saturday, setting off sirens in the Golan Heights town of Avnei Eitan.

The IDF said both rockets landed in open areas, causing no damage. Separately, the IDF confirmed that it launched an Iron Dome missile at a “suspicious target” that entered Israeli airspace from Lebanon but said it was still investigating. The second incident set off an alarm in the northern town of Alma, close to the Lebanon border, Israeli media reported.

Israel has traded fire with Hezbollah and allied Palestinian factions several times in Lebanon recently, including rocket fire and drones being launched at Israel.

However, besides fighting militants in neighboring Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza, Israel faced challenges from Iran on Saturday: Tehran warned of “far-reaching consequences” if Israel’s “war crimes and genocide” are not stopped immediately.

On Saturday, the permanent mission of Iran to the United Nations said on X, formerly known as Twitter: “If the Israeli apartheid’s war crimes and genocide are not halted immediately, the situation could spiral out of control and ricochet far-reaching consequences—the responsibility of which lies with the UN, the Security Council and the states steering the Council toward a dead end.”
