(Worthy News) – Suspected Islamic terrorists murdered a Christian doctor and severely wounded his motorcycle driver in Nigeria’s Nasarawa state during a machete attack on October 17, Morning Star News (MSN) reports. Islamic terrorists have slaughtered over 50,000 Christians since jihadism took hold in Nigeria in 2009.

Dr. Stephen Angbas, head of Angbas Hospital in the town of Lafia, was killed at about 4 pm in Awe County, along Jangargari-Awe Road in the southern part of Nasarawa state, MSN reports. The doctor was a member of the Evangelical Reformed Church of Christ.

In a press statement about the attack, Police spokesman Rahman Nansel of the Nasarawa State Police Command said Angbas’ commercial motorcycle driver, Mikailu Dahiru, was hospitalized with serious machete wounds.

“Nasarawa state has suffered increasing attacks by Fulani herdsmen and other terrorists who have moved into the state,” MSN said in its report. “From April 24 to April 29, Fulani herdsmen killed 12 Christian farmers in Ajimaka, Doma County in attack there and in 13 other villages.”

In a website statement about the situation facing Christians in Nigeria, the Open Doors international Christian advocacy organization reports: “Militants from the Fulani, Boko Haram, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and others conduct raids on Christian communities, killing, maiming, raping and kidnapping for ransom or sexual slavery.”

“This year has also seen this violence spill over into the Christian-majority south of the nation… Nigeria’s government continues to deny this is religious persecution, so violations of Christians’ rights are carried out with impunity,” Open Doors said.
