Nigeria: Retired Anglican Archbishop and His Driver Go Missing, “We Earnestly Plead for Your Fervent Prayers”

Nigeria Worthy Christian News(Worthy News) – Amid ongoing extreme violence by radicalized Fulani Islamic herdsmen and other terror groups against Christians in Nigeria, fears are growing for a retired Anglican archbishop and his driver who went missing in Anambra state on December 6, Morning Star News (MSN) reports.

A retired archbishop of Niger Province in southeastern Nigeria, Rev. Godwin Okpala set out with his driver from Nnewi, Anambra state for a funeral in Umuchu, Aguata County, but never reached his destination, MSN reports.

In a December 7 statement, the Rev. Ndubuisi Obi, Anglican Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, said: “There has been no communication, and neither he, his driver, nor the vehicle have been located.”

In a website statement about the situation facing Christians in Nigeria, the Open Doors Christian advocacy organization states: “More believers are killed for their faith in Nigeria each year, than everywhere else in the world combined. The attacks are often brutal in nature and can involve destruction of properties, abductions for ransom, sexual violence and death. Believers are stripped of their livelihoods and driven from their homes, leaving a trail of grief and trauma.”

Requesting prayer for the safe return of the two missing men, Rev. Obi said: “We earnestly plead for your fervent prayers for their safety and swift return. The relevant authorities have been contacted, and we are hopeful and trusting in God’s divine intervention for a positive resolution.”
