Trump Administration Threatens Withdrawal of Federal Funding from Schools That Don’t Eliminate DEI

(Worthy News)—The Trump Administration sent a guidance letter to schools warning that any institution using racial preferences in admissions, hiring, and scholarships risks losing federal funding by the end of the month unless it eliminates all diversity, equity, and inclusion practices.

The department issued a comprehensive “Dear Colleague” letter to educational institutions, mandating an end to using “racial preferences and stereotypes” or risk-facing compliance investigations beginning on Feb. 28.

“In recent years, American educational institutions have discriminated against students on the basis of race, including white and Asian students,” the letter stated.

“These institutions’ embrace of pervasive and repugnant race-based preferences and other forms of racial discrimination have emanated throughout every facet of academia.”

The letter continued, “The Department will no longer tolerate the widespread overt and covert racial discrimination in our nation’s educational institutions. According to Supreme Court precedent, treating students differently based on race to pursue vague objectives like diversity, racial balancing, social justice, or equity is illegal. All students are entitled to an educational environment free from discrimination.”

The guidance is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to challenge DEI practices, starting with eliminating its own Diversity & Inclusion Council three days after President Trump’s inauguration.

The department also put DEI staff on paid administrative leave and terminated $2.6 million in diversity training contracts, with similar actions taken across other government departments and agencies.

On Monday, the department announced it had canceled over $600 million in grants to institutions and nonprofits that conduct teacher training on “divisive ideologies” such as DEI, “anti-racism,” and “white privilege.”
