Trump Signs Order Requiring Proof of Citizenship to Vote in Federal Elections (Video)

(Worthy News) – President Donald Trump signed an executive order Tuesday requiring proof of citizenship to vote and mandating that all ballots be received by Election Day, fulfilling a key campaign promise to protect and strengthen election integrity.

The executive order, titled “PRESERVING AND PROTECTING THE INTEGRITY OF AMERICAN ELECTIONS,” directs the Election Assistance Commission to require government-issued proof of U.S. citizenship from individuals registering to vote.

Trump stated that the executive order would “go a long way toward ending” election fraud and hinted at additional actions from his administration in the coming weeks. “Perhaps some people think I shouldn’t be complaining, because we won in a landslide, but we’re going to straighten out our elections,” he said. “This country is so sick because of the election, the fake elections and the bad elections, and we’re going to straighten it out one way or the other.”

The order strengthens voter citizenship verification by requiring government-issued proof of U.S. citizenship to register, bans foreign interference, and directs federal agencies to give states access to citizenship databases. It also instructs the Attorney General to prioritize prosecuting non-citizen voting and related offenses, working closely with DHS and state attorneys general, according to a White House Fact Sheet.

The order directs updates to the Voluntary Voting System Guidelines 2.0, enhancing security standards for voting equipment. This includes requiring a voter-verifiable paper ballot and prohibiting the use of ballots where the vote is recorded solely within a barcode or QR code. It also instructs the Attorney General to establish information-sharing agreements with state election officials to help identify election fraud or other violations of election law.

Additionally, the order mandates action against states that count ballots received after Election Day in federal elections, aiming to uphold timely and lawful vote counting. It also revokes Biden’s Executive Order 14019, which had turned federal agencies into Democratic voter turnout operations.
