Trump and Putin Discuss Urgent Need to End Israel-Iran Conflict in Hour-Long Call

(Worthy News) – U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a lengthy phone conversation on Saturday, focusing heavily on the escalating war between Israel and Iran. The call, which lasted nearly an hour, came as tensions in the Middle East soared following Israel’s strike on Iranian nuclear sites and Iran’s deadly retaliation.

President Trump, in a post on his Truth Social platform, said Putin phoned to wish him a happy 79th birthday but quickly turned the discussion to the crisis. “President Putin called this morning to very nicely wish me a Happy Birthday, but to more importantly, talk about Iran, a country he knows very well. We talked at length,” Trump wrote.

Both leaders reportedly agreed the conflict must be brought to an end. “He feels, as do I, this war in Israel-Iran should end, to which I explained, his war [in Ukraine] should also end,” Trump added, referencing Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

According to Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov, Putin condemned Israel’s military operation against Iran and voiced deep concern over the risk of wider escalation. “Vladimir Putin condemned Israel’s military operation against Iran and expressed serious concern about a possible escalation of the conflict, which would have unpredictable consequences for the entire situation in the Middle East,” Ushakov told reporters.

Putin also reportedly highlighted Russia’s willingness to mediate and pointed to past Russian efforts to facilitate U.S.-Iran nuclear negotiations. The Kremlin confirmed the two leaders left open the possibility of reviving nuclear talks with Tehran.

The conversation came amid new violence that claimed lives on both sides. Iran’s retaliation following Israel’s strike killed at least three people in Israel, while Israeli strikes on Tehran reportedly killed dozens, including children, according to Iranian state media.

Meanwhile, with the conflict threatening to spiral, the UK and its allies are bolstering their regional military presence. RAF jets and assets are being deployed after Tehran warned Western bases could be targeted if they aid Israel.

While much of the call centered on the Middle East crisis, Trump said the leaders also briefly discussed Russia’s war in Ukraine, prisoner swaps, and a potential resumption of peace talks after June 22.

As the situation intensifies, the world watches to see whether diplomatic efforts by global powers can prevent further bloodshed in a region on the brink.
